Action Rule from Drop Down menu list (action on check box)

Hi there, I've searched all over the internet for support on this but have struggled to find the answer. While I have the action ready (after some testing on the side), its the condition I'm stumped with and trying to pair it with the action. Keeping it as simple as possible, I have a drop down menu with 30+ options loaded from a sharepoint list, in text format. When 1 of the options is selected, I want it to change the status of the checkbox. However I'm struggling to get the condition settings right. "Topic" drop down menu options: A B C D etc. CHBOX: [ ] Intended Rule: Condition - when Topic is equal to B Action - change field CHBOX? to value true() Can anyone shed some light on this?

You've put the rule on the Topic field, right? Rules only fire when the field they are on changes.

Thanks for your reply Hilary, Yes the rule is associated with the Topic drop-down menu, as it is when the topic is selected (condition) that I want the action to fire in changing the status of a checkbox

If a rule isn't firing when a field changes, usually that means the condition is incorrect - or the value of the field isn't what you think it is. For example, the drop down may be storing an ID, and your rule condition is using the item's title. Does that make sense?

Thanks again for your advice. I believe its the condition that is incorrect for sure. I did the action in a test environment and its firing as intended. You're right also in that the entries on the Sharepoint list have an ID associated with them, so I guess I'll have to try and match the Topic entry with the ID or Title from the Sharepoint entries?

If I'm confused about the actual value of a control, I add a calculated to the form that displays the value of the field. Then when I select an option, I can see what is actually being stored. Once I have my rules sorted out, I can remove the calculated value. Sometimes I'll just drag all the data fields from the data source I'm interested in onto the form so I can preview and see what the data actually is. You may find that helpful for debugging.

Thanks for your help so far - I've followed your advice what I've decided to do (and with some success) is create a text field (rather than a calculated field) on the form so that it displays the ID of the topic selected in the drop down menu. From the same text field, I've added a rule so that when the field = 2 (2 being the ID of the sharepoint topic), it fires a true() action to the check box - and this works perfectly when I select the topic for the drop-down menu assigned to the ID 2. However the problem I have now is that the checkbox remains ticked when I select any of the other topics. Is there a feasible solution to this, or do I have to create a rule for each topic ID?
