Concat values of multi-selection using double eval

In http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/29473/100974.aspx Hilary provided a sample form and showed how to use the double eval trick in the context of a multi-selection list.  Thank you Hilary!

In the sample code a calculated value is being set successfully.  Unfortunately you can't do much with a calculated value other than display it.  So, using her snippet, I tried:

(environment - O365, InfoPath designer 2013, previewed - not yet tested in browser)

    1.   created a string and set the default value to the double eval.  The string only gets updated when a value is removed from selection.  It starts with "Apple;" but as you add selections nothing happens.  Until you remove one value from selection.  When you do that the remaining selected values show in the string as expected.  Weird - it is not recognizing adds as a change that should cause recalculation.

    2. put an action rule on the repeating field (suggested on a social.microsoft thread).  It only shows the last value selected as if I don't have the repeating node - just the single value.  What is interesting here is that if you type the full xpath to the node (instead of using the insert field button) you get a formula evaluation error "../my:group1/my:field1" does not point to a valid location path of a field or group."

Can anyone suggest a workaround?  I need to be able to store the result of this selection.

I've modified and attached Hillary's snippet.

    Thanks!

Just tried publishing it to a web site and the default value worked.  Weird that it gets hung up in filler but my work is all web based so I should be good.  Makes me nervous though when things aren't consistent.
