InfoPath Dev

I have a repeating table where I enter a value. When I insert a new row and enter another value, I want the value of the previous row to be taken-away from the current row. Currently I have it working for the first 2 rows, but when I insert a third row it is taking the first rows value and taking it away from the third row when really I want the second row to be taken-away from the third row.

Here's a sample - save it locally, right click and select Design to open in Design mode. There is a formula on field2 that returns the value from field1 in the row immediately preceding.

I have been having a night mare of a time. I have been trying to get the preceding sibling working but i can't My xpath is showing as /dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:Client/d:Record/@FormType Im not sure how i convert that into the preceding-sibling, the tutorial is useful if you understand what is meant as a node. Any clues? Thanks in advance

Where are you trying to use the formula? Want to attach a sample form under the Options tab and I can give you a hand?

Thanks for a quick response. Im using this with an access database - when the user inserts a new case record, i want the form type to be the same every time, but only when certain rules apply Thanks

 Thanks for the sample - But I'm not sure where preceding-sibling needs to come into play here? Were you wanting to check the preceding row in your form rule conditions? Or set values to the preceding row?

So it has just dawned on me that the rules where pointing to a hidden field and i had infact left out the field i needed. Im extremeyl grateful for your time and offer to help.

No, you haven't wasted my time at all! We all sometimes just need to write out what we are trying to do in order to find the issue. :-)

my problem is same I am trying to use the preceding-sibling formula but it is not working keep saying "preceding-sibling::Vacatoin_Info/Used_Vac_Hrs" does not point to a valid location path of a field or group. MY Xpath whos default value i want to set basaed on the previous field (Used_Vac_Hrs) : /dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:Employee_Info/d:Vacation_Info/@Temp_Vac Xpath for Used_Vac_Hrs is : /dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:Employee_Info/d:Vacation_Info/@Used_Vac_Hrs
