InfoPath Dev

my form allows the user to search their local file system and "attach" documents (.doc,.xls and .pdf), now i have a hyperlink to that file however the hyperlink does not work as i've read since it's the local file system the link will not open due to security issues. SO... how on earth do i replicate the hyperlink functionality. I need to be able to click on this link and have the file open in the appropriate program. I am using Infopath 2007 and visual studio c#. The forms will be accessed and used from the users local computer.

Hi Erin,
I recommend having people upload the .doc, .xls, and .pdf files to a domain web site and using links in the forms to access them. That will make the forsm open faster too. If you have to use the local file system, you could add some code to save the attachment and open it. Probably 10-20 lines max.

Thanks for the reply!! Unfortunately we have to use the local file system for what we are doing. Do you know of any code examples on how to open the file from within infopath 2007?

We have code samples, but it depends on your solution (i.e. the schema). This will likely take an hour of help working closely with you. We have done it before, but there's no generic one size fits all solution since your solution may be different. Let me know if you need some help. We are booked this week, but could help you next week.

I would really like your help! If it makes it easier, i am storing the path to the file in the infopath form and the file itself is left in the original directory.

I found a really easy way to do this. I am hosting the form in a windows application, i placed a button down on the form and made it look like a hyperlink. When the button is pressed i send the information about the location of the file via notifyhost and then i open the file via my windows form using System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(filename);
