Migrate QdabraDBXL and QdabraUtility databases to another server

I need to move the databases for our DBXL install to another server - originally it was installed on a development/test server and is working (great) with our production SharePoint server and InfoPath.  But, the DBXL db's should be migrated to the production SharePoint SQL server as intended so that my test server can be strictly a test/dev environment. It is time to set it up correctly.

What is the process for a migration?   Does DBXL need to be "installed" on the SQL server where it will be installed first, then databases restored?  Or can I simply restore the db's to the new server?  And then I assume connection strings in the InfoPath form need to be updated as well?  SharePoint 2007 is installed on a stand-alone server and SharePoint SQL server another stand alone server, used strictly with each other.

I'd like a little advice before I make the move to prevent potentially breaking my InfoPath form and it's connection to database.

How will this affect existing infoPath forms that point to the former databases, after the databases are moved?

    Thank you,

     Doreen

P.S. We have DBXL version: 2.7.2013.211 installed on SQL Server 2008/SharePoint 2007

    Hi Doreen,

    Thanks for contacting us.

The simplest way to migrate 1-5 doctypes is to use the DBXL Migration tool to export from the old instance and then import to the new instance. Document types (form templates) that are published from DBXL should have the data connections fixed up automatically. If you are publishing the form templates separately, you will need to update the data connections. The DBXL migration tool for v2.7 is available here: http://www.infopathdev.com/files/folders/document_deployer/entry89768.aspx

The database can also be backed up and restored to a new server and DBXL can reference those databases when you install it. This approach does require updating the data connections in the document types (form templates) and may be less time consuming if you have a large number of documents (100k+) or document types (20+).

Your license comes with free DBXL upgrade and migration support. Please don't hesitate to email us and we will schedule an hour of time to assist you in the process.

We look forward to helping you soon.
