How can i bind the value in a dropdown to other fields (like select one time and show on the form) but I need to capture the values in a field

I have a drop down list box (contains products) in a repeating table so the users can select multiple products. They answer questions depending on the products selected, however there are several questions they need to answer depending on the products selected. I would like them to select the products one time and show what they selected in the questions that follow. I can do this but the product control stores duplicate data and when I export the data to excel, the field that stores the duplicate data does not export. I tried a rule but i only get the last choice in the drop down. It seems its do-able. Ideally I would like each time they select the item in the drop down, it will store in another field. It's duplicate data but each question has a weighting.

    Hi,

Is my understanding correct that you'll be selecting a value in the first dropdown and would like all the other dropdowns bound to the same field in the repeating group to have the same value? If so, can you take a look at my sample form attached and see if that's what you're looking for?

Notice the default value in the Dropdown field: xdXDocument:get-DOM()/my:myFields/my:Group/my:RepeatingGroup[1]/my:Dropdown --- this will set all fields to be whatever you selected on the first instance.

Let me know how it works for you.

Hi Thanks for the reply but i am on IP 2007 and cannot open the document. until I get home where I have 2010. If the first dropdown is inside a repeating section and multiple values are selected will it still work.

From what you describe, it sounds like it will.

    Sorry about that - here's a 2007 version.

I'm not sure I understand your question - how are you able to select multiple values in a dropdown? Would you like to attach your form so I can take a quick look?

Thanks for sending the attachment. What I need is this....Users select multiple items from multi-select list box, for example,  they select 12 products. Then they answer a yes/no question, I need to associate those 12 products to a series of yes/no questions without them selecting the same 12 products for each question. (there are 9 of them). I would like to select one time, display on each question, but be able to export them to excel, so I need them to bind to a field.

So far I only see the products 1 time in the excel export (the original selection) the copies dont bind....

I'm not finding a way to do this out-of-the-box but qRules would definitely allow you to do this. It has a command called CopyTable - it allows you to copy repeating data from one table to another. If you don't have qRules yet, you might want to try it. Here's a link to download a free trial: http://www.qdabra.com/en/products/qRules_new.aspx. You should be able to use its full feature in as many forms as you want until the trial expires. Try it and see if it helps achieve what you want.
