Saving information to a SharePoint List

I need help determining which method to use.

    Here is the scenario:

SharePoint list, InfoPath Form library and Document library.

InfoPath Form Library contains equipment Records
SharePoint List contains calibration records that are associated to the records in the form library and displayed on the form (secondary data source)
Document library contains the actual files that go with each calibration record in the list

I need to use InfoPath to configure the list form. The goal is to be able to upload multiple attachments in a single event and have the attachments saved to the Document library and a new record created in the History list for each attachment that was uploaded with a link to the document in the library. The document in the library would have to have the metadata that associates that document to the correct record.

I don't know whether I should use the Qdabra InfoPath to SharePoint List tool or the 'Save Images or Attachments to SharePoint and replace with Links' method or a combination of the two.

Can you point me in the right direction please guys?

    Hi-

I don't believe we have anything in these tutorials or in qRules that would allow adding metadata to the document as it is uploaded to the Document Library. We have this as a future feature but it's not yet available.

    qRules provides two options:

    1. AttachToSharePointList (or SubmitToSharePointList) - this allows uploading an attachment into the list item. The list item can have more than one attachment, of course.
    2. SaveToSharePoint - this allows uploading attachments to a Document Library.

So looking at your goal, I would suggest:

    • upload multiple attachments in a single event and have the attachments saved to the Document library - this sounds like SaveToSharePoint
    • a new record created in the History list for each attachment that was uploaded with a link to the document in the library - SubmitToSharePointList
    • The document in the library would have to have the metadata that associates that document to the correct record - this is where I don't know what to suggest. For now, I'll ask the team to review the feature request.

Hopefully this gets you most of the way to your goal.
