How editing a form without a DB connection?!?!

    HI
well, I promise that this will be for at least 24h my last question:
My form is filled with lots of values of a DB on a MS Server.
So I want to realize this scenario:
User copies / saves as my form local on his notebook. He filles the fields automatically and saves the form. Then he gets of the connection to the exchange server because he needs to get his notebook with him. Then he wants to open the form which ofcourse doesn´t work yet because opening the form requires data from the database!!! Assume he can open the form , he will fill out other fields which don´t need to be stored in the DB and ones that he will later write in the DB.
When he´s return to his place he gets connected to the server, writes back the data to DBs and saves the form back in a special file on the server.

    HOW CAN I DO THIS???????????????

    Desperate greetings
    Millie

P.S. Anyone an idea which book I can buy which answers my questions??
    Something like a cookbook??
By now I have "programming MS Infopath- developers guide". Well, you can see how it helped me so far :-(

    Hi Millie,
Matt has a good HowTo on how to cache data in an offline InfoPath form. That's what you want for this scenario. Good luck! Books? Well, this is an advanced topic. I don't think any books handle it. InfoPath 2007 has caching support and may solve your problem. Check out the Beta2!

    Thanks Patrick.
I think as a first solution I will tell the users that they have first to store AND OPEN the relevant forms befor they cut the connection to the server. This works, I have tested it.
Then I will read the help you told me and I´ll try it out.
The Beta Version may be interesting, but I don´t think its possible to install another version on the users pc.

    Thanks again!

    Hi again Millie,
I think you have a good solution, but the "store" command won't cache the DB calls will it? You'll need to implement caching, or just tell the users that they have to be online first. Anyway, I wish you luck!

Well my aim is to realize the caching thing... be aware when I´m starting there will be 100reds of questions ;-)
