Filter Data On A Drop Down List Using Rules

    Hello,

I am using infopath with a Microsoft Access database.  I have a drop-down list that is populated from a secondary data source - I will call this the 'Data List'.  I would like the full list to show in the 'Data List', unless, a filter value from an adjacent drop-down list has been chosen (I will call this list the 'Filter List').

Right now, I can get this cascading list to work using Filter Data when applying the secondary data source.  However, at the beginning, no values show up in my 'Data List' until I have chosen a filter value in the 'Filter List'.

I would like the user to initially get full access to all values in the 'Data List', unless they decide to choose a filter value from the 'Filter List', at which point the filter would be applied.

I can't seem to figure this out using rules.  Can anyone help me out?

    Justin

I don't think you would use rules for this. I think you would have another data connection, called "Full List", and another dropdown showing the full list.

If the user makes a selection in Filter List, you an hide the Full List dropdown.

If the user has left Filter List blank, then you hide the dropdown where no values show up and show only the dropdown with the full list. Conditional formatting allows you to hide/show only one of the dropdowns at a time.

    Hope this helps!
