Filtering Results from a sharepoint list

    Hi Guys,

Im fairly new to infopath and sharepoint, and currently im working with infopath 2007 and sharepoint 2007. Ill describe my problem, I have created a list in sharepoint that contains information about groups,

    Example:

    group name                     Members

    grp1                                 bob; trevor

    grp2                                 fred; tom

    grp3                                 bob; peter

Now what i want to do is, filter the groups by your username so if bob loaded the form he would be able to see only the groups he is appart off and then select a group that he wishes. I Noticed i cant use the filter with a drop down list or a list box, and when i use a text box i only get back 1 result. In our current environment the shrepoint list would be updated by serveral users constantly as people come and go from the groups. What i was planning to do was import the fields and use a filter with something like if members contains username() then disaplay groups, but as your aware you cant filter. So has any one had something like this or know of a way to fix it?

     cheers,

Re: Filtering Results from a sharepoint list

I have been dealing much with 2010 and filter and cascades over the last year. I have found it to be a pain but a workable solution. Currently I am woring with code behind and I am grabing SP groups that a user belongs to and writing them to a hidden text field. This is much easier to do with code cause then you can iterate over your data. to do this with rules and oob functionality it will take some work. It would be easier if you create a repeating table on your form and populate it with the list data of groups and users on form load. you may also want another dummy field that populates the current user. now you can set up a filter for your group column where user column contains users. If I have a little more time I would put together a demo. feel free to ask questions along the way. hope this can get you started
    Kind regards,
    Larry
