Re-enable text boxes after empty query

Right now I am having issues when I use a query in a rule and it returns empty. It seems to disable all of the text boxes it would have returned were it not empty. How do I get those text boxes re-enabled and usable again? My end goal is to check if there is a value in a database, and if not create a new entry into the database. If there is some way to do this without querying that would probably work as well.

    Good day conorsmith,

can you elaborate more on your question. e.g. what are the rules you are using, how do you intend to use the textbox, etc.

    Thanks

Certainly. Basically the only rule that causes this is if I have a rule that says "Query a database" and the query comes up empty. It disables the text boxes that the query results would have gone into, were the query successful. I'm fine with the boxes being empty, I just want to be able to re-enable the somehow.

    good day conorsmith,

Have you tried using dropdown list control to get the data? then on the properties choose get choices from an external data source and choose the data connection you used in the rule.

The only issue with the drop down list is that the box I am querying needs essentially two functions: To check if the query returns anything and to fill out some fields, and if the query is black to fill out the boxes that the query would have with some data that is determined by the date.
