Filter Values before binding to a dropdown.

    Hi,

I have a master list Test1 which has values

    A

    B

    C

and use this column as a lookup in another list Test2. I have customised the Test2 list form using InfoPath 2010.

I want to restrict (read as)[filter the value out before binding the values to the dropdown using a data connection] the users to select the values, based on a condition that the value{A,B,C} exists in the Test2 for more than 4 times. So that no user can select the value A if it exists more then 4 times. The option A has to be filtered out and not be displayed in the dropdown.

Can we filter out this way ?

    Thanks in anticipation.

Filtering the dropdown when it appears more than 4 times is a little trickier than your traditional filter rule.  Maybe what you can do is create a secondary repeating field that you can add entries to when the count for that value is 4 or more.  Then you can apply this field to your filter.  If you know there are x number of options and if x is reasonably small you can create multiple dropdowns and hide them accordingly.  Those are just a few ideas I had of how you can implement this.  Maybe someone else out there has a more elegant approach :)
