one to many relationship-easiest way to handle

Hello, I am in the need of creating an InfoPath form that writes to either a list or a table that I can later report on, I don't think a form library itself will suffice for later analysis.

If I have a header section of the form, and a details section, I would like the details to be in a repeating section, so I could have one header item with many detail items.

When I attempt this for a form based of a SharePoint list, it doesn't allow me to make the details section a repeating section.

Am I missing something, or is there a different way/order to accomplish a one-to many form that writes to a list or table.

     please advise, thanks in advance.

If your form is database bound (writes to a table) you can create a one to many relationship when you create the form - just specify both tables and their relationship.

But SharePoint lists are flat - you'd have to submit your header data to one list and your detail data to another (and SharePoint / InfoPath aren't going to let you do that out of the box - you can't add code to a list form, so you'd need to use a form published to a library and then code or qRules to submit the details data to the list).

Hillary, it worked to create the db and then the form based on the tables, but not for web forms?

would the qRules work for web forms, can you explain the qRules further.

I don't think the Infopath client based form will work for me as we have Apples to support?

the way I am understanding is that a web form would have to talk to a web service which would update the database and the 1 to many relationship?

     thanks for your help.

I honestly think your scenario might be pretty simple, and you may not need any special tools at all - what do you need to do with the resulting server data (that shows the applications belonging to the server)? I think you may just need a simple list form (for your servers) that allows people to select multiple items from the applications list.
