Word Print View in IP 2010

I can't find the option for adding a print view for word in IP 2010.  I see articles referring to it in 2007...  Is it still there? Any link to a walkthrough or tutorial would be appreciated too.

Or is there a better way to have a form print one view in portrait mode and one in landscape with one click?

You can add a Word print view in 2010 - has to be a filler form, I believe. From the Page Design tab, click the arrow widget next to "New View" - the drop down includes Word Print View.

I should add - there is support for printing multiple views in IP 2010, but I've not used it, and I'm sure you probably already looked into that for trying to solve your print issue.... I'm not aware of any specific tutorials for this for 2010.

I never ever noticed there was a separate template for a Filler Form. I assume the difference is simply that it doesn't restrict me to browser-compatible components.

The support for printing multiple views is unfortunately only half-baked - even though you can set each individual view to print in a different orientation, the dialog for multiple views forces you to choose just one orientation.

Would you know if I still need to use the Infopath - Word Print Wizard from the 2003 SDK as described here? Also seems to be a bit of a pain if the Infopath schama changes, you need to regenerate the Word XML.

    Thanks

     UPDATE:

So I downloaded the Word Print Wizard, created my report in Word, generated the xsl, added it as the Word Print View to Infopath - and no data printed...  I opened the Word doc again and get the message "The file contains custom XML elements which are no longer supported by Word."  So is this whole Word Print thing just not possilbe any more with Office 2010?

Well - I'd assume Word print views were still possible - since the option to add one is there. However, I'm not certain the Word Print wizard is going to be helpful. I know that this tutorial for using Word 2007 & above's OpenXML support - here's a link to a post on that. Where she says to switch to Visual Studio - you can use any text editor to open the files.

You are correct in your assumption as to the difference between filler and browser form templates - you can also change compatibility using the Form Options or Save As.

And yes, your Word print view will not be magic - it will have to be changed if your schema changes - hopefully you won't be making many schema changes, and you probably want to be pretty certain of your schema prior to creating your print view. :-)

Good luck. The XSL for Word print views has actually made me cry - you are brave to attempt it.

EDITED - I meant "not" certain about the Word Print wizard... but I'd missed the not there.

Re: Word Print View in IP 2010

I don't see how the Word print view can work given that Word 2010 now does not allow custom xml tags and that is what is used there.  The article by Wong-A-Ton looks like a pretty good approach - basically using text tags instead of xml tags.  I'll give it a try, though I'm wondering if I really need to spoil my users, or simply have them print each view of my form separately.

If the "print multiple views" option simply respected the page orientation of each view I wouldn't be in this dilema.

    Thanks for your help.

Oh dear, I thought I had found the solution to my question, until I read the line "XSL for Word print views has actually made me cry".....

That is all the warning I need!  :D
