    Textbox automatically set based on drop-down

    Hello:

    I have a question, but also wanted to thank you for the great tutorial on cascading drop-down lists. I am brand new to InfoPath and was able to follow and understand that tutorial without trouble.

    I have a little different need, though. I have a drop-down that is bound to the FullName column from a Contacts Sharepoint list. That list also has a Department column and I have a Department textbox in my InfoPath form. I want the Department textbox to automatically populate with the Department column from the person selected in the FullName drop-down.

    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Deb,

    Welcome to the forum. First you need to create two the scheme.
    1. Add a Text Field named name
    2. Add a Text Field named department
    3. Right click the name field under myFields and select Drop-Down List Box.
    4. Right click the department field under myFields and select Text Box
    5. Now add your data connection and select those two fields (name and department) on your sharepoint list.
    6. Right click your name field and bring up the Drop-Down List Box Properties. Select Look up values in a data connection and set your entry value.
    7. Now click Rules and add a new rule.
    -> add action

    Sorry about that, I click the wrong button before I finished. So here we go again.

    -> add action
    -> select set a field's value
    -> in the Field: select department from your main DOM
    -> in the Value: click the fx icon and select department
    from your secondary data
    -> click Filter Data, add a filter
    Name(from secondary data) is equal to name (main DOM)
    -> click ok until you close all the dialog boxes.

    Now preview your form.

    Wonderful. I guess you figure it out before I finished it. :-)
