    Sharepoint Online : GetGroupCollectionFromuser

    Hi all, i'm a new user on your forum and under Sharepoint ( Designer & infopath 2010),

    i encounter few problems with infoPath and condionnal views,
    here is my need :
    I created several views under infopath and i want to load a view according to the user's group.
    So i created a second data connection with Webservice Soap using the "UserGroup.asmx",
    i modified GetGroupCollectionFromUser1.xsd as found on the net, adding a complextype GetGroupCollectionFromUserType and using it as follow :

     <s:element name="GetGroupCollectionFromUser" type="tns:GetGroupCollectionFromUserType"/>

     When i preview my form all is ok, but when i use it on my site online i have an error "Une erreur s'est produite pendant l'interrogation d'une source de données." -> "Error during data source request"

     I opened a post on microsoft support, but no solution at this time !

    Anybody had this problem and find an issue !

    Thank you for your answers

    Hi,

    I'm not sure what would be causing your specific error; one would probably need to troubleshoot on the environment to identify the reason why the data connection is failing.

    But it sounds like a very complex solution that you're putting together. If you are using the InfoPath filler, then you can simply use the User Roles built in to InfoPath. If using browser forms in SharePoint, there are a number of options documented on the web:

    • Microsoft documents a workaround by using a secondary XML file (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/infopath/archive/2007/01/10/implementing-roles-in-browser-forms.aspx)
    • Clayton Cobb (Microsoft MVP) has documented workarounds using Active Directory and another using a contacts list:
      http://claytoncobb.wordpress.com/2009/07/19/infopath-user-roles-in-browser-enabled-forms-using-groups/
      http://claytoncobb.wordpress.com/2009/06/14/user-roles-in-browser-enabled-forms/

    Hope these help!

    Re: Sharepoint Online : GetGroupCollectionFromuser

    Hi ernesto,

    thank you for your answer,

    i tried infopath filler, i can use the Role function, i'm not familiar with infopathFiller, and not sure to understand the difference between an infopathFiller and infopath from Sharepoint list.

    In my case, i already did a sharepoint list and want to customize it, so i can't use the Role function .

    I don't want to start from scratch my form, but i tried to create an new infopath filler, added a new data connection based upon my sharepoint list. After i don't know how to link both on my sharepoint site !

    There are limitations when using forms created based on a SharePoint list, so perhaps you've run into one (User Roles). I haven't specifically tried your scenario using a SharePoint list, however.

    You can have InfoPath forms linked to a SQL database, or to a SharePoint List (some limitations apply in both cases), or you can design a blank new form and design it to submit via email, or to a form library, or to a web service.

    Re: Sharepoint Online : GetGroupCollectionFromuser

     Hi ernesto,

    Thank you for your time and support,

    Neither end-user, nor Microsoft can explain me why the generated file from userGroups.asmx is useless, and why do we need to modify it, and why Microsft doesn't fix it correctly !

    So, i'm still searching if i can use it in other way !

    thank you

    Hi mfurberg,

    You probably figured this out already, but I'm posting a solution in case someone else stumbles upon this similar issue.

    You did the right thing to manually modify the GetGroupCollectionFromUser1.xsd file, but there's more to it than just adding that one line:

      • Find the following line. Normally it's the 2nd line of the file.
    <s:import namespace="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
      • Add following just below the above line.
    <s:complexType name="GetGroupCollectionFromUserType">
        <s:sequence>
          <s:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1" name="userLoginName" type="s:string"/>
          <s:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1" name="Groups">
            <s:complexType>
              <s:sequence>
                <s:element maxOccurs="unbounded" name="Group" >
                  <s:complexType>
                    <s:attribute name="ID" type="s:unsignedShort"></s:attribute>
                    <s:attribute name="Name" type="s:string"></s:attribute>
                    <s:attribute name="Description" type="s:string"></s:attribute>
                    <s:attribute name="OwnerID" type="s:unsignedByte"></s:attribute>
                    <s:attribute name="OwnerIsUser" type="s:string"></s:attribute>
                  </s:complexType>
                </s:element>
              </s:sequence>
            </s:complexType>
          </s:element>
        </s:sequence>
      </s:complexType>
      • Find the following part.
    <s:element name="GetGroupCollectionFromUser">
       <s:complexType>
         <s:sequence>
      <s:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1" name="userLoginName" type="s:string">
             </s:element>
    </s:sequence>
        </s:complexType>
      </s:element>
      • Replace it with the following code.
    <s:element name="GetGroupCollectionFromUser" type="tns:GetGroupCollectionFromUserType">
    </s:element>

    You can then save the file and then open manifest.xsf in the Designer - you'll see that the GetGroupCollectionFromUser data source nodes have been changed.
