Send selections from multiple list box to another multiple selection box

Hi all!  I've been searching for a few days for an answer to this and haven't quite found anything yet.

I'm working on a form that will help clients to design trainings for new initiatives.

One of the elements in this form is a multiple selection list box that prompts the user to identify which roles are impacted by the new initiative.  The list box has 70-80 different roles in it, but the average user will probably be selecting 8-10 roles.

Below that, I have a repeating table to capture each one of their learning objectives.  Each learning objective will be targeted to a subset of the impacted roles they chose above.  IE, I might have a learning objective that everyone needs to know, and another that only specific roles need to know.

What I would like to do is to populate the second list box in the repeating table with ALL of the selections from the first box.  If they select 8 roles, all 8 roles should show up in the second box.  They can then choose from just that subset of roles.

I have the first box mapped to the second through a rule, but it only inputs the last thing selected.  Alternatively, I tried to create an invisible repeating row and have the first selection box mapped to that, but had no luck there either.

I'm hoping someone here will have brilliant ideas or has dealt with this before.

You'll need to set up the second MSLB to populate its entries from the first MSLB.  I attached a sample form that will hopefully better illustrate what I mean.  Basically you'll need to pull in the entries from the other MSLB control and you can do this for every learning objective.  Hope this helps.

    Anson!

That is a fantastic answer!  I had things set wrong!

Now, the only thing that is happening with my file that I don't see in yours is that in mine, the second MSLB starts with a box checked in it that has no content.  Then it populates with the others.

Any thoughts on why that is happening?

Thank you again, it was very helpful!

Just to be clear, here's what's going on.

So, I think it has to do with some setting attached to the original MSLB.

I've reattached your document.  There, I've created a new MSLB following yours.  The boxes that point to your original MSLB don't have the phantom checkbox.  The boxes that point to my MSLB do.  I've been searching everywhere to find the difference, but I'm just not seeing where it could be.

The problem is the default values.  Open up the default value dialog (in 2010, go to Data tab -> Default Values) and then uncheck the repeating fields that are bound to both the MSLB controls.  That should remove that extra blank option in both cases.

    Brilliant!

I had changed the default values for one but not both.  Thanks so much again, and be well!
