Validations of two drop down box

    Hi All

I am new to this and know very little about code. I would like to set parmeters on one drop down box depending upon the value of another.

I am useing SP 2010 and have two filed that allow the user to state that an item has been ordered and another that states that it has been delivered. the problem i have is some users are selecting the deliverd item before the order item.

i would like to set it in a way the prevent or warns the user that the item can not the delvered before it has been ordered.

    Any ideas?

You can add conditional formatting. The steps will vary depending on whether you are on InfoPath 2007 or InfoPath 2010, but conditional formatting will allow you to set conditions that will disable the delivered dropdown according to the values in the item dropdown.

Here is some additional information though a quick Google search should reveal more useful links. Good luck!

    Thanks

I didnt explain very well. the conditional formating i wish to apply is to a Check box.

If the drop down box = yes then allow the chack box to be checked, if the drop down is no then hide check box

For controls that can't be directly hidden, you can place the control inside a section, and hide the section based on your condition.

Thanks but you will have to spell it out for me. I have added them into a section but the above only shows me how to add a conditional format to a repate sections and not to a section.

can you direct me to an artical or tell me where to read it?

Conditional formatting works the same for a section as a repeating section. For 2007, right click the control and select Conditional Formatting. For 2010, click the section (or the field it is bound to) and Manage Rules.

If you'd like, you can attach your form under the Options tab and I can help you with it.

No - the only way the user interacts with the form is by changing field values. So, you could have a button that says "hide" that sets a field's value, and conditional formatting based on the value of that field, for example.

Sure - you'll also find a lot of info on the forum about them - what's the specific issue you are having?

Re: Validations of two drop down box

I have a drop down list that has a supplier (SP 2010 Look up) and a second that has the supplier account number (another colum in the SP 2010 list).

i would like it when a user selects a supplier that infopath auto adds the account number, is this possible?

I think what you are saying is that when the user selects the supplier from the drop down, you'd like another field to have the value of the supplier account number - is that correct?

So, you can use rules or default values for this.

Let's say you use a default value.

On the field that you want to have the account number in, you'd right click the field in the Main Data Source in the data source task pane.

You'd set the default value - clicking the fx button to open the forumula editor. Use the insert field or group button and navigate to the account number field in your secondary data source. Click the Filter Data button. The filter will have 3 drop downs - the first drop down you'll select the Supplier field from your SharePoint list. The middle drop down you'll leave as "is equal to". For the final drop down, select the main data source node that is bound to the drop down where the user selects the supplier.

    Hope that helps.

When you reply, using the Reply button, there is an Options tab. at the top. You can click on the options tab to attach a file.So you can attach a screenshot that way, or the form template you are working on.
