Filter repeating table on value outside of table - get error.

I am trying to filter my repeating table to show only items which field matches the value of a field outside of the table.  When I try to publish it, I get an "Object not set to an instance of an object" error.

However, if I applly conditional formatting to do the same exact thing, I don't get any error.

    Any suggestions?

Is this a browser or a filler form?

I don't use filters on repeating tables usually, as I've had troubles with them in IPFS - I also find that it is not easy to readily see when a table has a filter, whereas conditional formatting shows up in the Rules task pane.

    It's a browser form.

The reason I would like to filter instead of format is -

The filter or condition is based off of a drop-down outside of the table in the form.  The users choose the drop-down, click a button, a table is copied over, and the only rows that are shown are rows that have a field that matches the drop-down.

The problem is, with conditionall formatting, the table is formatted every time that drop-down changes, which causes a performance issue.  With the filtering, the filter isn't applied until after the table copies over, making it more seamless.

Can you check the SharePoint logs for additional information?

Is your SharePoint server running SP1?

I know I've seen this before - I removed the filters from my table, so don't know of a resolution for you, but one blog I found (thank goodness for Google translate) suggested he was able to resolve the issue when he moved his calculated value controls below his repeating table controls in his view. I certainly hope that didn't actually cause the issue, but it's kind of interesting.

Oh, and MSDN has this post on the ShP boards - but no conclusive answer.

That looks like it is indeed the problem.  I have a seperate test form that has the same table and rules.  When I add a calculated value above the table, the form will no longer publish.  This is good to know.

I worked around it by adding a text box to filter with (conditional formatting) and setting the text box with button click instead of default value.

Oh. My. Gosh. Thanks for posting this - I honestly thought that had to be some crazy coincidence. Can you tell me your version of SharePoint 2010 (any service packs or hotfixes installed)? I want to report this as a bug.
