    Domain Login Prompt

    Folks:

We have a bunch of InfoPath Xml files stored on a web server (not SharePoint, just IIS), all pointing to a single Xsn file on a file share. The Xml files are all intended to be read-only - they only display information. The Xsn is located on a file share to which everyone has Read permission. In the publishing wizard, I have tried both a UNC and an HTTP reference to the Xsn, and recreated the Xml files accordingly, to no avail.

Whenever a user opens InfoPath by clicking on a hyperlink to the Xml file on the web server (anhttp://..../Filename.xml reference), InfoPath opens without a form displayed, and a domain login prompt is presented twice. Four times if the xsn file has been updated to a new version. The prompt identifies the server name, and requests a logon id and password, and the Save Password? checkbox.

The user can simply press Escape to ignore the login prompts and the form is presented with all the data just fine. If the user does enter a logon id/password, and checks the "Save Password" box, InfoPath continues to prompt anyway. I'd like to set it up so those login prompts do not appear.

Are they appearing because InfoPath is trying to determine if the user has read/write credentials to the Xml file? Is there any way to tell InfoPath that we only want to read those files, and not to ask for write credentials?

Thanks for any help anyone has to offer.

    Rob

P.S. - in a test environment, we managed to get the domain login prompt to disappear (somehow - set some permissions too liberally and moved the xsn onto the web server), but now are being presented with a different InfoPath message - "This form cannot be filled out, either because you do not have adequate permissions, another user has the form open, or the form is open in another program. Do you want to open a readonly version of this form?"

Is there any way to suppress this message, and have InfoPath open the form read-only without a prompt?
