External Data not sorting correctly in Drop-Down

    Hello All,

I thank you in advance for your help.

I have an InfoPath form in a SharePoint 2010 library. I have external data connections set up in the form to pull data from a list on my site. The issue I am having is with the sort order once the data is loaded in the control (I have checked the option to retrieve data as the form is opened). The data connection wizard did not give me the option to determine the sort order at the screen where I choose the fields. So I went into my list and change the default view to sort by the column I want to see in ascending order (Project Name in my case). This works fine from InfoPath when I click preview from the ribbon on my local machine. But when I publish my form to the SharePoint site it displays the drop-down sorting by the ID of the items in that list.

Does anyone have an idea of why this is and how I can change it?

Thank you again for your help.

The option to sort the values should be in the data connection wizard screen.  If its not there, then it may not be supported with external data connections.  Sorting the column in SharePoint will not affect the InfoPath form sorting.

    Options you could consider are:

    • Use qRules to sort the column
    • Writing your own code to sort the column yourself
