How do I create a [ME] Filter using an InfoPath Field?

    InfoPath 2010 and SharePoint 2010

I have a form that that contains a dropdown in it that lists employee names.  Users open the form, select an employee from the dropdown and then submit the form to a SharePoint Forms library.

The situation is that I am trying to create a filtered view in that library so that employees only see forms where their names were picked from the dropdown.  So if only one person has picked Bob from the dropdown and submitted the form and I am Bob, I only see the one form in the view.  Normaly I would set the filter in the view to Employee = [ME].  This dosn't seem to work when you use "Property Promotion" to populate a field in a SharePoint list when submitting a form.

Does anyone have an idea of how I might be able to acomplish this type of view in SharePoint?

    Hello smonczka,

this is not possible at all because you can“t promote a text field (from Infopath) to a people object in SharePoint. Commonly there are two alternative workarounds for this issue.

    1. Using a filter webpart on your page

This workaround is only possible if you use "Enterprise Edition" of SharePoint-Server because the filter webparts only available in this version. Please have a look at http://www.sharepoint911.com/blogs/laura/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=117 for an example.

    2. Designing a workflow with SharePoint Designer

In general, you need to add a new column and create a Workflow with the SharePoint Workflow Designer. In this workflow you populate the new column (person datatype) with the account name from Infopath. You will find a useful example here: http://blueinfopath.blogspot.com/2008/10/create-personal-sharepoint-views.html

    Hope that helps.

    Regards

    Karsten

    Karsten,

Using the workflow solution I was able to populate a Person data type field in SharePoint.  When the form is submitted it takes the assigned to field in the form and transfers that data to an assigned to field in the list.  WOOT!

Thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction.
