Newbie question: Published .xsn file showing as garbled mess in IE browser. How do I embed as a website?

    Hi there,

I have built a form using infopath and published to our company webserver.  However, when I try to download the file using IE, it appears as a garbled mess and NOT simply either a "Do you wish to Download" popup or a embedded HTML page?

Any way to fix this? Does this have anything to do with MIME types being wrong? How do I have this display as a website?

    Please help!
    A million thanks in advance!

    Hi Derek,

It sounds like you don't have InfoPath client installed on the machine where you are trying to open the form?  That is why you are seeing the XML in IE, that is my guess.

If you do have InfoPath installed then you should open up your settings in IE and make sure that InfoPath is the default application for XML.

Regarding displaying your InfoPath form as a website I assume you mean displaying in a browser window as a web page and for that you need SharePoint 2010 Enterprise with IPFS or SharePoint 2007 MOSS with IPFS.

    Hope that helps

    Ok Thanks Ted,

But if I publish the .xsn file to a webserver that does not have Sharepoint 2007 MOSS with IPFS (InfoPath Form Services), shouldn't the .xns simply appear in a HTML "Do you wish to download popup window?"

    Hi Derek,

It's a client issue really - if you don't have IPFS and the user doesn't have Filler installed on their machine IE is often the default HTML editor so it just opens in IE.  You might be able to change preferences in windows to do something else.
