    Using getuserprofilebyname with Non-AD accounts

     InfoPath Dev,

We have a SharePoint 2007 site that uses ActiveShareFs to create SharePoint accounts from an external Shibboleth authentication system.  Inside of InfoPath, I can't seem to use the getuserprofilebyname method to retrieve the current logged in user's information for these non-AD account types in browser-based forms.  I'm hoping to do this without using managed code.  Here are a couple of notes:

    1. This method, as expected, works fine for AD accounts
    2. If I lookup the profile by email address or GUID, I'm able to retrieve all the information.
    3. The profile is listed normally in the User Information List
    4. In InfoPath preview mode and InfoPath-based forms, the current user's information populates for these non-AD account types, but not in browser-based forms.
    5. When executing the query in browser-based forms, nothing occurs.  According to FireBug, the Ajax call returns 200.

I believe I've hit on all the major points.  Also, it seems I can't just use the username() function, since that seems to have the same limitations that I'm experiencing with the getuserprofilebyname web service calls.  I'd appreciate any suggestions or tips.

Have you tried converting the data connection to UDC?

I started looking into UDC, but came up with a relatively simple approach this morning:

I have the user 'seamlessly' submit the form at the beginning, before any user information is needed.  On the subsequent views I use a data connection to look up information about the current form, and pull the 'created by' user name.  The only downside is that I can't apply the 'use active form only' filter for the connection, since it seems the form must be closed and re-opened for it to work.  Overall, it's a simple codeless approach.

     Thanks for your suggestion.
