    Modifying a PO Template

    Hi,

I'm very new to Infopath and need to create a PO form for our company.  I found one that I downloaded from MS but I can't add any text boxes or radio buttons as the data is all locked.  I found an answer about adding a line to myschema but once I copy and pasted that it wouldn't repackage.  I'm sure I'm doing it wrong and wondering if anyone can help.

    Thanks

Do you have an existing form in Microsoft Word that you could use instead of using the downloaded one?  It's pretty much a WYSIWYG editor, but need to give some thought to how you want to submit and process the forms.

Are you planning to use SharePoint for this, send by email, etc?

    Hi,

I could create it in InfoPath from scratch but I love the template feature of calculating Qty, Item Price, Totals, SubTotals and Taxes.  Maybe my question should be is it easier to create a PO form from scratch and create formulas myself :)  I know how to create formulas in Excel....

The form will be used in Sharepoint and distributed via a Document Library, eventually being tied to a database via our SQL Programmer guy.  He is new to InfoPath too, so neither of us can figure it out.

I would say it's probably easier to do it yourself - at least that way you'll be getting to grips with the tool and there are sufficient mathematical formulae available to do what you want.  I assume the majority of it will be multiplication with a repeating table so that people can add further lines.

I process all of my forms via DBXL and into a form library within SharePoint for medical research which includes multiplie lined tables for comorbidity information, etc and it all works really well.  Just work out in advance what information you want to display within the library to make sure that you promote this property when publishing the forms to allow people to browse high level information without needing to open the forms, but beware of trying to display repeating items within the list.

Maybe limit it to just total order total, etc - guess it all depends what business process you're modelling and who needs to see what and when!!!!
