Where is InfoPath local data held?

I am completely new to InfoPath and trying to understand how it works. I am using InfoPath 2007. Apparently if you are working with a local form it will cache the data locally. I filled out the sample expense report form and clicked submit. I cannot see where the data I entered is saved to. Is it in an xml file? I looked in ‘C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\InfoPath\FormCache2’ but had no idea where the data file would be. Also what is the difference between a form and a template? Thanks

You can open the form in design mode and look at the submit button to see what it does. It could submit to SharePoint, send email or submit via a webservice, among other options. Once the form is open in design mode, look at the submit button to find where the data is getting submitted to. You could modify the submit button as necessary if the current submit operation is not what you want.

A form template is the XSN. A form is the xml that is generated when the XSN is filled out.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. Looking at the button it seems to be set for email. However, when I save the form (to any location) I notice there is an xml file which when opened displays my data. Would this be correct? Also I presume a form is not the same as a form say in MS Access. That is my confusion right now. When I see an InfoPath screen I assume that is a form as per MS Access.

Save and submit are different operations.

Submit, as you mention, will submit via email. You might need to edit the data connection to add your email or modify the email settings.

Save simply saves the xml to the location indicated by the user.
