    master/detail control

i need to create a simple form to gather data from many sources into a SQL db.
I need the user to select their store no. from as ddlb. THe ddlb is poplulated from the 'store' table on the db.
Then i need the user to complete any number of rows in a 'detail' section below, one field of which is store no. which would be populated from the ddlb above.
Clicking the SUBMIT button would then add all the rows from the detail section to the db.

I figured i would have to use a master/detail control for this. However, the problem i have is that when a user adds a row to the detail section, a row is also added to the master section (the ddlb is dublicated). I do not want this!

    Any ideas please??

Hi Marie and welcome to our forum,
Can you change your data source so that there is repeat grouping in your detail section? Just add a group node and then move the detail section below it and make it repeating. Then, you can add new sections without adding the master part. Hope this helps,

thank you for your reply Patrick. I have tried your suggestion but cannot understand how to link the detail to the master without having a repeating section as the master?

I think the difference is maybe that I am basing my form on a sql database (the main connection is to sql)- it seems to be more limiting.

    Hi Marie,
Yes, that would make sense. With your own XML schema you have more options. Check out our free evaluation version of the Database Accelerator which allows you to map your form to a SQL database without having to rely on the relational schema. This might be an interesting pattern if you are just starting and don't have data in your database. However, if you have data in your database, don't bother looking at the Database Accelerator.
