Sorry if this has already been posted but can someone explain the formula to calculate the age of a person from their birthdate. Have tried a few but none of them work. Probably terribly easy!

Try this, this examp[le has worked for me. let me know if u find some issues.
This formula should also work:
(substring(today(), 1, 4) - substring(birthDate, 1, 4)) - 1 * (translate(substring(today(), 6, 5), "-", "") < translate(substring(birthDate, 6, 5), "-", ""))
