    Data Connection Error

I've sent up a form to capture data from our client database so that I may populate client information on the form. The database has about 35,000 records. When I run the form in design more everything works fine. When I try and post to SharePoint and run as a browser enabled form I get an generic error 'An error occurred accessing a data source.'.

When I set the data source to not retrieve data when the form is open, it works. I then created a  'query the database rule' to search for the client record based on the id that the user had entered and the error returns. I've tried changing settings in Configure InfoPath Forms Services  in SharePoint. Nothing seems to work, but I'm also not sure what changes would help.

Yes, the data links have been converted to Data Connection Library. One more thing if create a view that filters the data down to 7,000 records, everything seems to work, but this is not an option. I've also tried to create code-behind the form that will query the database, but I can't seem to find a good example on how to get this accomplished.

This same issues happen when I try and create a browser enabled form using http://claytoncobb.wordpress.com/2009/07/19/infopath-user-roles-in-browser-enabled-forms-using-groups/ idea. Again I believe it's because of the data size.

Can't someone give me direction on what might work?

    Hi David Foster and welcome,

InfoPath has a default time out of 30 seconds for data connections and I'm guessing that's causing your problem. To increase this, you'll have to add some code to your form. Another option would be to filter the data dynamically and just pull down the data that the user needs to access at that moment. This will likely make it much faster. To dynamically filter the data from a database in a browser form you will need a Web service installed on the server. Another option is to use SharePoint's BDC/BCS to hook a SharePoint list up to the database and then InfoPath can query the SharePoint list using filterOwssvr. To simplify using this, you can install the free trial of Qdabra's qRules.

Hope this helps. Send me email if you want someone to show you how to extend the default timeout.
