Query a Database using Web Service based on values from form

I have used this site alot of help but this is my first post.  I am hoping I can get some much needed help.  I am attempting to fix an ugly bug of my current form...duplicates.  The current the form submits 18 fields thru a web service to an Oracle database.  4 of those fields define if the record is a duplicate.  I have configured the web service to accept all 18 fields, query (using the 4 unique fields) against the database to see if the record is a duplicate or a new record and send back either the existing record if its a dup and "true" if its a new record.

My problem is that  I can't use a data connection to both submit and recieve.  I see that data connections can either submit or recieve but i can't figure out how to do both.  i tried to use submit rules but still can't figure it out.  The next step is to provide the options to A. Delete the original posting. B. Use the new data to populate a new form with the existing data or C. Cancel.  Can anyone provide any help at all?  I have been banging my head against the wall pretty violently to get this right!  Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Captain Rock,

This is one of the biggest gaps in InfoPath today and it is why Qdabra developed it's generic Web Service Suite called DBXL for Database Accelerator. Obviously, Qdabra pays for this free forum and you could not care less about that. You just want a solution to your sore noggin.

Since it's not a best practice to rfeate a data connection that binds directly to the DB, you have chosen Web Services. Your Web Service will have to understand how to update rows when edits are made. DBXL does this but hasn't been deployed for Oracle. Bottom line: you'll need someone to help you with your submit web service. You'll have to change it to take the 4 unique fields and replace the rowsets that correspond to it.

    Good luck!
