File attachments don't show paper clip icon in Outlook

Hi everyone. I have a form that submits conference information to a database, then the details are emailed to a large distribution list. I couldn't use the email submit function because users needed to include others on the CC line and Infopath didn't allow that to be added separately. So there is a button with code that generates the email (with the CC, BCC, and Introduction fields) for them to manipulate however they wish before sending.

A file attachment is required for each. However, when people send the form and it shows up in Outlook, there is no paperclip icon beside the message subject indicating there is an attachment. If you open the email it's there, but people are getting really confused. Does anyone know why the paper clip icon doesn't show up when a file is attached with the attachment control? If I choose "Form Data" from the list of things to attach with the current view under Tools > Form Options > E-Mail Attachments it shows the paperclip icon in Outlook, but gives the Open Form option which I do not want. I need the form in Outlook to be the "read-only snapshot" each time. Any ideas? We use Office 2007. Thanks for any insight.

    Hi,

The snapshot function is not perfect, there are known issues with alignment and other display issues and that icon will only show if you have the form template attached to the email (which you don't want to do).

One possible workaround you could think about would be to create an e-mail view and IF there was a file attachment present you could have a section that would show an icon of the paperclip.  Not a perfect solution and would require a little customization using rules & conditional forrmatting but that is one option.

    Ted
