Expression boxes are NOT read only. Why?

    Hi Guys,

I need some help because I don´t find anything regarding this issue. My Expression Boxes are all NOT read only. Everything I can find about expression boxes is that you have to use them to make text read only but mine are all NOT read only. So the users that fill out the form can also change the text values in the expression boxes. That mustn´t be. Can you help me?

Thanks in advance for the inconveniences.

    Chris

Are you sure that they're expression boxes and not text boxes?  I've never seen an expression box that wasn't read-only.

You can also make text boxes read-only, incidentally.

    HI

First of all. Thanks for your quick response. :D
No they are definitely expression boxes. The values are assigned to them by an xml file.

I publish the infopath form to sharepoint and if a user then opens the form all expression boxes are NOT read only :(

    Perhap it´s an sharepoint issue!!!???

Do you mind attaching a copy of your template to a reply (under the Options tab, you can upload a file). I'd like to see if this repro's published to one of our SharePoint sites.....Is the form being opened in the browser or in the client app?

     Hi Hilary,

I´m sorry but I can´t do that because it´s a huge form for a customer of mine. I don´t think that they would agree if I make that form public.

It can´t be a  sharepoint issue I think because I published another form to that library and there, all the expression boxes were read only as they should be.

What I can additionally tell you is that ALL my fields can be edited when opening my form from the sharepoint. For example: If I click on a picture or file attachment field that has an picture allready assigned to it, I am prompted to choose and paste a picture file. And I´m not in design mode. I open my form from the sharepoint library. Perhaps it´s a general infopath setting that I have to change!? I´m opening my forms with infopath itself (client app). Not with the Internet Explorer.

I don´t know what to do. Cant anybody help me :(

Here is an attachment of how it looks when I click on an expression field while filling out the form. Please notice that the spell checker is also activated. that´s not as it should be. what do i have to configure to get this sh** running without having the feeling to design the form instead of filling it out.

Re: Expression boxes are NOT read only. Why?

Ok i got it. I found the error. I copied the expression boxes from another form when I started the project. When you do that infopath does not copy all the attributes for the expression box.

    Solution:

Open the view (.xsl-file) and search for <span class="xdExpressionBox xdDataBindingUI"

Insert the following attribute into each span-element with the class "xdExpressionBox xdDataBindingUI": xd:disableEditing="yes"

     Anyway thanks for your help.

    Cheers,
    Chris
