    not sure where to begin

    Hello,

    I'm new to Infopath, so I'm not sure how to articulate/craft my questions but here goes:

    I created a Infopath form that will be initiated as a Request for work from a different person.

    The person is to get a a email and and open the Work Request in the browser.

    Do the work offline ( outside of sharepoint/infopath) and attached thier work product to the InfoPath Work Request.

     When they attach, the email returns to the Originator, informing of the work. The originator is to open the Form with the newly added content, review the work for accuracy and quality, and provide a comment on the form.

    I am getting multiple versions of the initial Request. I have infopath save the file name with a Time Stamp as part of the file name. I need them to reuse the same file. Before I had the time stamp, Info path was giving me an error ( very non-descriptive)

    What I'm hoping for is someone how to approach the architecture, of the Workflow, notifcation, what to think about, and what to read up on..

    Thanks,

    rwiethorn

    Hi there,

    Simply create a field in your form called FormName. If the field is blank you know it's a new form, so you populate it with the timestamp. Then, when the form is reopened, your name remains intact because the rule to set the field only executes when the field is blank. Promote this field and use it as your name when submitting the form.

    Good luck.

    Hi rwiethorn,

    I agree with ErnestoM. You can do it with that way. But Instead of time stamp use User Login ID to give Form Name.

    Using username will not be unique, because the same user may submit more than one form..  Timestamp is much better using the now() function.  I actually use userName() combined with now():

    concat(userName(),"-",now())
