    Repeating Cascading List boxs

    Good Day,

A newbie on this site, and a newbie to Infopath but learning by trying.  I'm creating a fairly simple form to track network changes.  Submitting to Sharepoint WSS 3.  There are 3 cascading list boxes retrieved values from Sharepoint list and a description field:

    Service

    Sub-Service

    Sub-Sub-Service

    Description

The lists provide the category of the change and the description allows the user the provide details of the change.  I would like to allow the user to provide this data multiple times on the form, as often there are related changes, i.e. A network port change, switch port change, VLAN assignment.  I have all the list boxes working to show unique values using filters and rules, but I can't figure out how to put this in a repeating section or table.  Everytime I do this i get errors about storing data or that the lists can't be part of a repeating table.  When I've tried it the best I could get is that the repeating table would just create a duplicate of the first "row" that the user selected.  If I changed the subsequent ones the others changed as well.

Checked this blog but it looks like what I did....but get the duplicates.  http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/greg/archive/2005/07/14/Create-a-Repeating-Cascading-List-from-a-Flat-Data-Source.aspx

     Any assistance is appreciated

    Hi Sailor and welcome!

In your main data source right click on the group that contains the dropdowns that you want to repeat. Choose "reference". Drag the newly created fields to your view. Now you should be able to do what you want.

    Re: Repeating Cascading List boxs

Hello, and thank you for the reply.  I'm not sure that this is exactly what I want.  By doing this it creates numerous groups under my original group in the data source, like this over and over:

    GrpService
       - service
       - sub-service
       - sub-sub-service

     GrpService
       - service
       - sub-service
       - sub-sub-service

I tried dragging the fields into a repeating table but I get a warning message in the field once I place it in the table "Control Cannot Repeat Here".  I'm assuming a repeating table is what I want?  Allow the user to enter items like this:

    Service(list)           Sub-Service(list)         Sub-Sub-Service(list)         Description(memo/text)

    Service(list)           Sub Service(list)         Sub-Sub-Service(list)         Description(memo/text)

For as many related "changes" that are required on one form keep adding a new row.  The service lists may be unique for each row, but may not depending on the work.

Again, sorry I may need hand holding here.  This is somewhat new to me.  I'm not sure I understand what adding the "reference" accomplishes.

Are the groups repeating? That might solve the warning message. I thought you already had specified repeating group before you created a reference.

You're probably creating a mountain out of what should be a molehill. Why not just start over and create the data source that you want. Then just drag it into your view. It will automatically create a view that binds appropriately to your data source. The main data source is the most important part of your form because it describes the structure of your data.

    Re: Repeating Cascading List boxs

     Thank you again,

Yes I had forgotten to make the group a repeating group.  Did it from scratch and dragged the fields into a repeating section and everything is o.k.  One NEW issue is that I can't apply rules to the drop-down list boxes anymore.  I need to blank the cascading list box, but right-clicking on the list box doesn't even produce the option of applying rules.  This had previously been no problem.  What am I overlooking now?  Searched and came up with nothing.
