Difference between programatically adding repeating a row to a repeating table and out of box repeating table

     Hi,

I am new to infopath. Can anybody just give me a simple scenario where can we programatically add a row to a table also where can we add an out of box repeating table. What is the difference between these two?

    Thanks,

    Kalyan.

    Hi Kalyan and welcome,

You want a scenario? Or, instructions for how to do it? Programmatically adding a row to a table will require code, or you can use Qdabra's free qRules tool to do it.

Adding a repeating table can be done with an optional section that includes the repeating table which is already defined in your data source. Create a section. Insert a repeating table into it. Then, mark the section as optional.

    Good luck?

    Thanks Patrick,

I am looking for the difference between these two. When should we use programatically adding thing and when should we use out of box repeating table.

Depends on your form's scenario. I don't think one can say that one should always use Programmatic Inserts of rows. Nor can one say you should always use the default InfoPath widgets that exist. It depends on the requirements of your form.

In general, use buttons and programmatic inserts when you want to control how many rows the user is adding or do some extra validation when they add a new row (easier to add it codelessly as part of a rule on the button).
