Hi

I've build a form with a repeating table which has a dropdown menu with different categories.  What I'm trying to accomplish is to populate a different field with the total amount of hours inputted when that category (training) is selected and omit the other category in the total.

Have you tried logic, such as sum hours where category = training?

No I haven't.  I'm pretty new at infopath so I've been learning as I go.  If you could explain to me the steps on how to do that it would be a great help.  I'm using infopath 2007.

Create a new data element in your main data source using the Whole Number or Decimal data type.  Place it on your canvas as a text box.  Double-click the box and set the default value by clicking the Fx button.  Click Insert Function, choose Sum, double-click "insert field here", choose the Hours node of your repeating group, click Filter, and set the filter to when the Category node equals training.  This should sum all the hours from the repeating table for that category.
