    Saving single field in InfoPath

    Hi all,

    I use InfoPath 2003 with VBScript. Is it possible to save the value of a single textfield
    by pressing a button? I know that I can buildt a dataconnection in order. As far as I
    know a dataconnection in InfoPath allows only to save the whole form in a xml file
    on a sharepoint library.

    Hi TestUser,

    Without understanding your scenario (the problem you are trying to solve), it's hard to give you the most pertinent advice ...

    You can save your single field to a Web Service that maps to a database. We provide a free trial Web Service that allows you to specify the mapping. You would only map one field and then on submit only that field would be saved. No coding required and you don't have to change security permissions of your form. But, your users must have access to the server that the Web Service is installed on.

    You can also save a single field to a text file but that will require writing code and creating a Full Trust form (since writing to the local file system requires elevating default security privileges).

    HI Patrick,

    thank you for your reply. In the meantime I solve the problem partly with this link:

     http://blogs.msdn.com/infopath/archive/2007/03/26/submitting-to-a-sharepoint-list.aspx

    It works fine. But with this solution I'm only able to add and not to update rows in the list.
    How can I handle this? Is it possible to do this with the same WebService? I tried to replace
    new with update. But nothing happens.

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <Batch OnError="Continue">
        <Method ID="1" Cmd="New">
            <Field Name='Title'></Field>
            <Field Name="FirstName"></Field>
            <Field Name="LastName"></Field>
            <Field Name="Email"></Field>
            <Field Name="Phone"></Field>
        </Method>
    </Batch>

    By the way. I would prefer to do it with existing tools because I'm limited in installing
    new WebServices.
