Problem trying to export to PDF or XPS, a copy of the print view

I am stuck trying to get a PDF file created,  I keep getting the following error message

InfoPath encountered an error. The operation failed.

Can anyone shed some light on the issue.  And help resolve it.

I have Adobe Acrobat reader 5.0.  I think the current version is 9.0.  I don't think that is the problem.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Are you trying to use the plug-in mentioned in this post? http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/ernesto/archive/2009/05/01/save-as-pdf-in-infopath-and-office-2007.aspx. If not, you might want to try installing the plug-in. I've used it many times in my InfoPath forms and other Office documents and haven't encountered any issues so far.

Here are the steps from the Microsoft website:

    InfoPath

Do the following when you are filling out a form in Office InfoPath 2007:

    1. On the File menu, point to Export To, and then click PDF or XPS.
    2. In the File Name list, type or select a name for the form.
    3. In the Save as type list, click PDF.
    4. If you want to open the file immediately after saving it, select the Open file after publishing check box. This check box is available only if you have a PDF reader installed on your computer.
    5. Next to Optimize for, do one of the following, depending on whether file size or print quality is more important to you:
      • If the form requires high print quality, click Standard (publishing online and printing).
      • If the print quality is less important than file size, click Minimum size (publishing online).
    6. Click Publish.

If it still doesn't work, it might be worth upgrading your Adobe version.

    Cheers!

Thanks for your help, that was great.  I will test the suggestions you quoted.

After you step 3, I get the error mentioned. A very short error comment, with no indication why!!

I CAN gtet the data out to an EXCEL file now.
And create an XML data file.
I have ALSO created an xsd SCHEMA file,
and trying to work out how to get everything flowing and THE FINAL  Transform file.
The will hope that I can then create an official letter from the transform file,
and that it can be touched up before it is sent out to their clients.

My client likes ( or just refers to) PDF files as a workable document holder.
So unless I can resolve  the inability to create a PDF from the InfoPath export, I will be restricted to EXCEL.

Maybe I will try the update to Adobe suggestion. When I get a chance.  Version 9 (nine) I think it is.

Or, perhaps I should just use the EXECL data and export it to Word!!!

What are your thoughts, on this mess.

    Cheers.

    Ian
