    File attachment control won't promote

I added a file attachment control in my existing web enabled form (which I have already published to a SharePoint Library and am just adding an additional control and re-publishing), only to get this error message when I try to promote it during publishing.  “The selected field cannot be promoted because it’s file type is not supported: base64binary.” According to online resources, file attachments are supported in web browser enable InfoPath forms, heck given my compatibility settings, the control wouldn’t even be in my tool box if it wasn’t supported. But that is the error message it gives me when I try to promote it.
    Anyone?

The file attachment control is supported in a browser form, but the base 64 data type (which is what the control stores) can't be promoted up to your SharePoint site. The documentation is simply talking about the control itself, and you are right, it wouldn't be in your tool box if you couldn't use it. But the error message you are getting is not related to the control at all, simply the supported data types in ShP.

Thanks Hilary, it appears that you are correct, that file attachment option is (according to the below link) enabled for a custom web service not SP. All it basically does is send the attachment to a seperate document library and store the link to the attachment in the column that the other information from the form was sent to.

Basically I had done a reverse of the above before, loading attachments in a document library, then having people link to the attachment and include in the form before they send it out, so that those who receive the report could click on the link to open the attachment.

Looks like I will have to keep doing it that way.
