    AD Web Service

    Hi there,

I have an AD Web Service that retrieves data from Active Directory based on User ID. When you invoke the method in a browser for example it returns the email address of the User ID you entered, but when I try it in infopath it doesn't return anything. I am sure I am doing something wrong. How would you go by retrieving the email in infopath using 2 fields User Name and Email address.

You enter the user id in the infopath User Name field and the email address field should populate based on that User ID invoking the webservice.

Any help is appreciated by you GURUS out there.

    Thanks

Have you actually set up the form to query the web service?  You should do this by using a rule either on the userName field or on a button.

Jimmy, I did several examples and none of them was successful.

I just use the User Profile Service, which pulls from the User Profile database in SharePoint as opposed to trying to connect directly to AD from within a form.  The User Profile database should mimic what's in AD as long as the profile import schedule is set to run regularly.  The attribute for email is named WorkEmail, and is extremely easy to retrieve at any given time in any form as long as you have the userName(), which can be automatically retrieved by default for the user opening the form.  You can also retrieve 30+ other attributes, such as Manager, Department, PreferredName, LastName, FirstName, AccountName, etc.
