After Changing Bindings, Can't Open Form in Design Mode

I'm doing some re-work in InfoPath 2007 of an existing form made with InfoPath 2007.  I rearranged some bindings in / out of optional & repeating groups, and copied some of the controls to a new view.  When finished, everything worked fine in preview mode (all controls; all views), and the logic checker showed no errors.  I saved the file.

Now when I attempt to open the .xsn file using "Design" command to access it, I get the following message:

InfoPath has encountered an error.  The operation failed.

The form will then not open up in design mode.

If I use the "Open" command as if to fill out the form, it opens fine.  However, when I attempt to access the new view, I get the following error message:

    Some rules were not applied.

InfoPath cannot open the view. The form definition (.xsf) file has an error on the following element or attribute:  xsf:xmlToEdit

Error: the following attribute is incorrect: container in the xmlToEdit element with name = "group339_47"

The view does not open, but all the other views work fine.

Is there a "back door" way to get to the design view to either erase the view, or delete the controls + bindings that appear to be causing the problem?

    Hi,

Open the .xsf file in any editor. Search for ‘group339_47' and try to verify the xmlToEdit element. Is it same as the other fields or not.

Note: Make sure to have a back up file before  doing this.

I'm not a programmer.  How can I access the .xsf file?  In design mode, I know you can "save to source files" and it breaks the .xsn into all of its elements...but as stated, I can't get into design mode.  After locating the .xsf, can I use MS NotePad to open .xsf?

    Thanks.

Yes. You can use Notepad editor to open the xsf.

Great...how can I extract the .xsf file?  Remember, it is not letting me open the file in Design Mode; so I can't use the "Save as Source Files" command.  Is there another way to extract?

Hi, Rename your xsn file from template.xsn to template.cab. Now you can extract your file and then you can able to open your .xsf file in Note pad.

Ok; I finally got into my .xsf file.  One line containing the "group339_47" is posted below and shows suspect characters at the end of the line.  Does the presence of the strange characters at the end of the line indicate an error?

     <xsf:xmlToEdit name="group339_47" item="/my:myFields/my:OG-TestFacReq-ReflctvtyAbsrptn/my:OG-TestFacReq-ReflctvtyAbsrptn-BySrfce" container="/my:myFields/my:OG-TestFacReq-ReflctvtyAbsrptn/my:䯌ы갴À蛤ÀᚼÀ馄т馄т䟜ы">

     Hi,

The XPath in the container attribute has some invalid characters. Make sure that XPath is correct.
