    Reviewing Attachments with infopath form

    Dear All,

I am trying to create a form that enables me to review, update and submit new entries to an Access database.

As part of this I want to be able to review and add attachments in a repeating section (accompanied by a commentary field explaining the status of the document)

But I keep getting the same damned message that the attachment field must occur in the repeating section or table bound to the group the attachments are part of, as far as I can see I am doing just that but it seems to think otherwise, can any suggest the problem here.. better yet the solution?

    Hi,

I think the attachment control is not binded to the repeating field. Make sure that the attachment control is binded to a field which is under the repeating group in data source. Do check this one,

    1. Go to view -> Design tasks.

    2. Click on Data source.

    3. Go to the attachment control and click on that.

    4. See in the Data source pane. It will highlight one field. Make sure that field is under the repeating section(The section in which you placed the control).

Hmm see as far as I can tell I have the group already bound to a repeating field, but when I got to insert the control it doesn't?won't bind, any chance I could send you a couple of screen shots via email so that you can see what I see and tell me where I am being completely stupid, which I suspect is the case eventually :o)

    HI,

First inser repeating table into the form and then insert Attachment in that Repeating Table.

BTW, You can attache screen shorts in this forum only.

    1. Click on Reply button in the forum.
    2. Click on "Options" tab.
    3. Click on "Add/Update" button.

What is the data type on the field that is causing the trouble?

The data type would be attachments of any kind stored in an access database, which I want to be able to review, amend and attach as required..

I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. From your screenshots, it appears as if your form was created off the database you intend to submit to, is that correct? In the database, what is the data type of the Attachments field? I'm asking because I thought that InfoPath wouldn't allow submit on a db bound form if the db had certain types of columns in it, including file attachment columns. If you drag the attachment field onto the form, what type of control does IP create? I'm wondering if you aren't getting kind of a misleading error message...

Re: Reviewing Attachments with infopath form

Ah I see, sorry but no the form has been create from the design wizard in infopath, using the database as the mainsource, if I drag and drop it creates by default a text box which reads the file names but doesn't provide a link to the file, nor can I view multiple files, just the one... very frustrating I feel like this might be a limitation of the software, but I am not willing to lie down and take it without a fight, so here I am..

And then, in your Access Database, the column that you wanted to use for your attachement? Is it text, or character (I'm not very familiar with Access data types)?

The thing is, you aren't going to be able to simply bind a file attachment control to a field that uses a text data type. And as far as I know, InfoPath isn't going to allow you to have a submit connection to a database that has a field that would accept an attachment.

Is it absolutely necessary that the attachment be stored in the database? Do you intend (for example) to need to access that field from other applications?

Re: Reviewing Attachments with infopath form

Yeh thats the tricky part here, the database has created a subset that I can't see or access, but in the main table it appears as an attachment that much is certain..I can send another screen shot tomorrow if that would help...

Point of fact though I don't necessarilly need to be able to store the files in the database, but it would seriously help, would this be easier to achieve if I wasn't using access I wonder?
