Drop down options linking to fields?

    Hello All,

new to the Forum, hoping for a bit of luck I guess. I am currently working on a project for my IT department, making our own packing list. Basically what I want is have a drop down of our customer numbers that link to an address database on our SharePoint site (its a contacts list). Once you select the field in the drop box theoretically it should fill in the address fields I have.

I have tried connecting the data source, then within the drop box properties setting a rule that will query's the SharePoint list and Filters set within each field I linked to only display "X" name if this particular customer number is selected. Any thoughts on doing it?

I am not opposed to doing the code idea, I dont know which setting to use when going into the codeing options. I have some VB experience but would prefer the rules. Any suggestions?

     Mike

    Hi, welcome to Forums,

For above requirement, you have to takse secondary data source as your sharepoint list/library. Then follow the following procedure

    1. Go to Address box properties
    2. Go to default value --> Insert field or Group
    3. Select secondary data source in Data source drop down
    4. Select 'Address' field and click on Filter Data button
    5. In this put condition that --> Customer ID (of secondary data source) is equal to Customer ID (of Main data source)

I think this will solve your problem

    Hi,

If I understood your question correctly, the following link will help you in solving that problem.

    http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/matt/archive/2006/04/18/Automatically-Populate-Fields-from-a-Drop_2D00_Down-Selection.aspx

In the above link they have taken xml as secondary data connection. Instead of that you can take your SharePoint data connection.

    Hope this helps.
