    Please help! How to....

    Hi! I am a newbie to infopath but pick it up quickly. I have a form and integrated it to work with SharePoint 2003 portal. Basically a form will be submitted to the SharePoint library. What i could not get to work was the concat(..., today()) stuff. I wanted to be able to name the file as Daily Status Report - Date but somehow it never worked. I've used the fx function to insert the form and etc but still unable to get the form to generate the filename + date.

     any help is much appreciated!!!

    Does your formula generate any results? That is, are you getting a file name, just not the one you expected? Can you try using a static value for testing in the file name and verify that the form submits correctly? Does the name have any characters that SharePoint doesn't accept?

    Sometimes I put an expression box on the form with the same formula I am using for file name so that I can see the results of my formula before submitting, that can help with troubleshooting.

    Hi! the form submits perfectly fine with static file name..but when putting dynamic formula, it did not generate the things i wanted (file name + date stamp)

    What is your formula? What is the result it is generating?

    The formula i tested quite a few but end out to be no good for example: concat('daily status report - ', today())

     never worked...I just simply want filename + date. seems infopath soo hard to make that happen.

    I do understand what you want. I don't understand why the formula you are using doesn't work, or how it doesn't work. Can you please tell me what results you get from that formula?

    For example, if I use that fomula in an expression box on a form, I get the result:

    daily status report - 2008-12-04

    Now, I don't know off hand if a '-' is allowed in a file name on SharePoint. You may want to test by trying using a static file name with a '-' in it. If it isn't, you'll want to use the translate function to remove the '-' from today.

    concat("Status report  ", translate(today(), "-", ""))

    for example. I hope that helps....

    trying it now..basically there was no error message. The form submitted fine but the filename + date did not show but instead, it showed as the exact formula I insert.

    Okay, that helps... when you see the exact formula, usually that means you didn't enter the formula in the formula editor window. You need to click the fx button and put the formula there...
