I've published a form to my SharePoint server, which has InfoPath installed. However, only people who are running InfoPath on their desktops seem to be able to open the form. Others receive an error message loading the form.

Is the form set to be opened in a browser? Make sure it is a web enabled form and if so make sure the setting in your form library are set to "open in browser", found under the advanced settings tab.

No, I have not set it to be web enabled because InfoPath is installed on the server. I lose functionality with the web version that I need for the form. Am I understanding correctly that even if the application is on the host server, it needs to be a web enabled form?

Is InfoPath Forms Service what you have installed or do you have a full on client version of it on your server?

If its the later I am not 100% sure as I am not a networking guru and I am not overly familiar with using client programs from a server local, but I imagine as long as your users are licensed to use InfoPath it should work. So my initial question for you would be to make sure all potential users of the form have the proper licensing or permissions on your server.

However if it the former you are correct the form would need to be web enabled.

Can you give more detail on your error message in server side?

Not required to check works as web enabled form as on your host server. It should open form in InfoPath directly. Can you check once InfoPath is installed correctly or not on server machine.
