    Missing "Database" data connection

I've got a blank InfoPath 2003 form and am trying to set up a data connection to submit data into an Access database that is on our network. If I go click Tools -> Data Connections -> Add -> select 'Submit Data' -> Next, I only get the following options for submitting data:

    To a web service
    To a SharePoint form library
    As an e-mail message

    No Database option.

Can anyone suggest where I'm going wrong? I'm really keen to start using InfoPath in our company as a way to get rid of all the various little Access databases that all work and look differently and also as a basis for several paperwork reduction projects.

    Cheers,
    Tim

I have not found a way to add a database connection as a primary connection to an exisitng form.

As far as I can tell you must create the form using the "New from dataconnection" wizard

Hi - thanks for the quick response.

I've just set up the data connection to a database, but am now unable to set up a button to Submit the data. I'm dragging a Button control onto the form, right-clicking, selecting properties and setting the Action to be Submit. However, I only get the following things to submit to:

    Email
    Web service
    Sharepoint form library
    Web server (HTTP)
    Custom submit using form code
    Custom submit using rules

You can only submit to a database if the connection is your primary connection. Did you start the form the way I said? If you did then the connection was not able to accept submits

On the last screen of this wizard it will tell you if the connection is valid for submit. You can recheck it by modifying the connection and clicking next until the summary screen then hopefully it will tell you why

I am having this same problem but I am doing what is said in the replies. I start my infopath document with a link to an access database. Then I retrieve all the data from a table that I am trying to set up a form for.

I can run queries on this but I can not submit the information back to the database. I get exactly the same options. PLEASE PLEASE Help

    Re: Missing "Database" data connection

If you create the database connection correctly it will be a "retrieve and submit data to database" connection, so you do not have to create a 2nd connection to submit.

When you are creating the connection, carefully read the last screen before you click finish.

It will give you a summary for the connection, including submit status.

If your connection cannot be submitted it will tell you why

The reason its not allowing the Submit option is one or more of the tables in the data source do not have a primary key, unique constraint or unique index

I was having the same problem, until I downloaded & installed InfoPath Service Pack 1 (I am using InfoPath 2003.) Hopefully this helps you.
