Issue with --Edit In Browser -- while filling dropdown value

I have a strange issue while filling a dropdown when the form is opened in "Edit in browser" mode.

    1. I have a browser enabled form which is published successfully and am able to create new infopath forms from document library. No problem here.
    2. The form has 2 cascading dropdowns. Selecting one dropdown populates the second dropdown. This works on web service.
    3. When I open the already submitted form in "Edit in browser", everything else on the form populates fine except for the second dropdown. The second dropdown fills the "Value" instead of "Display Text". For example, if the original (value, display item) pairs are (1, A), (2, B), (3, C), the dropdown fills with only value 2 (if B is selected while submitting the form originally).

Any idea on to how to make the display text to show instead of the value in the second dropdown ? I have no clue on why the first dropdown works and the second doesn't. One mroe thing, the first drop down has "Automatically fill when the form is opened" checked.

Sounds like the data source behind the dropdown box isn't populating with values when the form is re-opened, and so it has no recourse but to show the value that was stored in its bound field.

    Could that be the issue?

I thought so too.. and tried to assign sample value in the input parameter of the data connection for the second dropdown. I am lost here as to how to set this value.

Have you tried using rules that execute when the form loads?  You can find the option to set these in Tools→Form Options...→Open and Save.  This should also enable you to conditionally query the data connection when the form is loading.
