    VSTA and infopath

I am using visual studio tools for application in the load event of my infopath form to grap data from ldap. My question is once you publish the form to a sharepoint form library list does the server that houses the sharepoint site need to have VSTA on it.

    Hi,

When you publish your InfoPath form having some code behind in VSTA, InfoPath creates a .dll of the code behind and include in the XSN file, so it is not required to have VSTA on the server where you have SharePoint environment.

You can extract the published cabinet file and check in the extracted files.

    Hi,

I could not understand what exactly u want to ask in the above post.

When you publish your InfoPath form, it will be published as an XSN file as per the path you specify while publishing. The .dll will be bind inside the XSN file. You extract the published XSN file and from the extracted files, you can see the .dll file.

    Hope this will help you.

I think that will help, Like i said i am new at this. WE are working on virtual pc then we need to migrate to a test server. Right now I just have the infopath form with the code in the load event. I do not have a form library on a sharepoint site to publish to. Do i need to publish the form or can i save the infopath form take the xsn file and copy to my server where i can then publish it to a sharepoint form library.

    Hi,

If you are doing development on one machine and then want to migrate the devlopment on another machine then you just copy the XSN file with the Infopath project folder for that form to the new machine. As you said that you have some code in the loading event. After moving code and form to new machine, Open the infopath form.

Tools --> Options --> Design Tab --> project location for visual basic and C# code:

here check that your path for the code behind is pointing to right folder.

    Hope it will help you.

    Ok thanks,

I was able to copy the xsn file over to the server, but i had to copy all of the C# project files over and change the reference to the correct folder on the server in the infopath form options sections. When I develop from my local machine (virtual pc) do I have to copy all the C# project files over, in order for it to work I had too. I there something I am missing?

    hi,

You need to copy the entire folder containing the C# project. If you had not changed it from default then by default it will be residing at the below path

go to "My Documents"--> "InfoPath Projects" --> you will find a folder with a name of your XSN file.(e.g. default is Template1)

This folder will be containing your entire C# code behind and other related solution for your project.
