Relocating a template off of a server to a local workgroup drive

I just took down my server and moved my Infopath template to a workgroup computer that serves files to about 8 other computers. I thought I could just republish the template to the shared workgroup drive [on a PC].  The problem is that the metadata in the infopath form wants to look back to the orginal server location to find the template, so it takes about 60 seconds to open a form while the form serches all network resources for the template....it does this every time.  I tried opening the republished form on the client computer to make sure that infopath knew were the template is published and this seems to help a little, but it's not consistent.

Is there a path command I can put in the registry so that when a form is opened it knows where to look for the template.....or is there any other way to get a form to stop looking for the now defunct server?

Also, what kind of security should I be using for this setup.  Domain security doesn't seem to work well.  I'm currently trying to run restricted....please don't tell me I have to buy a certificate to run this in trusted mode.

Any new forms should be fine but any previous forms have the previous template location saved in them.

Qdabra has a tool for bulk editing templates and updating the saved link.

Of you could possibly create a DNS alias for the old server and point it to the new one and make sure the local path was the same.

Domain security is fine in most scenarios
