Format in the Text box properties is dormant

I'm connected to the database, but when I try to click on the Format button for the text box properties; its dormant(greyed out). I double checked to see if I was connected to it in the database. And its still greyed out. What can the problem be.

When you are connected to data base "format" button will be grayed out.You can not change the format of that field.

I am getting the same problem. I am retrieving data from webservice. This contains, among other controls, 2 rich text boxes. The formatting menu is grayed out. These 2 rich text boxes should be editable with formatting to post back to webservice.

It seems bizarre that this is happening.

If you connectly directly to a database you cannot use formatting within fields

If you use a web service to connect to a database it is apparently possible to use formatting but so far I have not been able to do it. The web page I read said about using the web service to convert text to a blob field but I dont know much about that

I am using a webservice so not binding directly to database and this still happens. This is really frustrating, defeats the purpose of having rich text if only for reporting.

    Mahitha,
Your information is wrong, because I have done this before. When I connected to a database with a textbox before, the Format button was not grayed out. I just can't pen point the problem.

    TravisBickle,

I deleted that column and place it back under a different name and it worked for me before. Other than that, I don't know what's the problem. It's so strange. I connected to the database with text boxes before and had no problem formatting. I even compared the previous text boxes that worked with the ones that don't and no difference.

oh you can change the display format of number (you are not actualy changing anything, it's just how it's displayed)

By format we both thought you meant rich text, it's rich text that cant be bound to a databse connection

I think also that the SQL database don't accept Rich Text boxes.

you can change the format of texts box in design mode

however the text stored will not have any formatting and you wont be able to change formatting while using the form

yes as per the web page i posted, you have to use a web server to convert rich text into a blob field if you want to store it in a oracle database, i think sql version is binary but i dont know for sure

    Stavi,
We are talking about in design mode. It will not format in design mode. You thought we were talking about when we were using it?
